Tom Harris is a northern songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and educator.
They aim to create music which pushes back against the hostile world which we currently inhabit, whilst acknowledging the need for joy and comfort in the meantime. Their new album ‘Hug Your Lovers’ (due for release in winter 2026) explores queerness, OCD, and challenging the idea that romantic partnerships and work define a person’s life – instead celebrating friendship, chosen family, and letting people live on their own terms.
As an educator, Tom believes in helping people find their own path in music, and the idea that musical concepts are better absorbed when studied through the lens of music which students are passionate about. They teach musicianship and improvisation at Yorkshire Young Musicians and Opera North, facilitate songwriting workshops with Abram Wilson Foundation, and run their own piano, clarinet, and composition teaching studio.
Tom was recently supported by Jazz North’s ‘Northern Line’ scheme, and is set to start a Masters in Composition at the Royal Northern College of Music in September 2026. They also perform and record regularly with artists across the UK including Olivia Cuttill, Marco Woolf, and Nishla Smith.
